Throughout the year
The church year starts in September with the church dinner. We look forward to what we’ve planned for each of the three terms. You can find a copy of our latest yearly church planner here. Here are some of the highlights in each of the three terms.
In the autumn term we have our annual church away day. Both all age and evening church meet together at the Factory in Wimbledon. We invite an outside speaker to address a topic we don’t usually cover in the normal Sunday preaching programme. In recent years we’ve thought about busyness, stress and forgiveness. We’ll enjoy a magnificent and relaxed lunch together. The afternoon is usually spent on Wimbledon Common chatting, chasing kids and kicking a ball. The term concludes with our Christmas events; the nativity tableau and Christingle for the children and pub carols in the Bedford.
In the spring term the Knowing God groups go away to a venue outside the capital. These relaxed weekends provide a chance to read the newspaper, recharge the batteries and remind ourselves what countryside looks like! After a couple of days we’re dying to get back to our urban context. But we return better equipped to serve God in the city! Every spring we hold an annual church mission with a variety of different events to help people who wouldn’t usually come to church hear the great news about Jesus Christ in language that they can understand.
In the summer term, the year culminates with Revive, the Co-Mission weekend away in Portsmouth. It’s hard to say what people enjoy most about this weekend; it could be the amazing kid’s programme, it could be the Saturday evening entertainment package or it could be the varied teaching programme of seminars and plenary sessions. We deliberately slow down in August so that everyone can enjoy a rest. Though we continue with church meetings, our small groups shut down and lots of people take the opportunity to go away on holiday.
