Giving to

The Dundonald Church Charitable Trust

Background

Dundonald Church was planted by Emmanuel Ridgway in 1990 as an Anglican Evangelical Church to serve Christ in the local community. In 1996 the evening congregation from Dundonald was planted into St Andrew’s Church and this became known as St Andrews@Seven. Christchurch Balham was planted from this congregation in 2002 and currently meets in Chestnut Grove School. Fairfield Community Church began as a morning congregation meeting in Bedelsford School in January 2003 and later that year Cornerstone began as a Sunday evening congregation aimed at the student population in Kingston. The South African Evangelical Church was established in Worple Road Evangelical Church at this time and then most recently Wimbledon Central Church was planted into Yates’ Wine Bar in Wimbledon.

The financial support of these ministries is dependent upon the giving of the congregations. We therefore ask all members to consider making some contribution, large or small, or to reassess their current giving.

2004/5 Projected Expenditure

In 2003/4 total spending was £478,000.

During 2003/4 The Dundonald Church Charitable Trust gave away £x to gospel work elsewhere. People supported included Andrew and Rachel Chard (Tanzania), Benjie and Rhoda Leach (Mozambique), Jane Benney (Gambia), Bence and Judit Dobos (Hungary), Claire Mason (Liverpool) and Duane and Naomi Olivier (South Africa).

Why Give?

a biblical perspective

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor 9:7)

One of the most concentrated passages on the subject of giving is in Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, chapters 8 and 9. It is worth taking the time to study these before coming to any decisions. Some of the key points are outlined below:

Ten principles of giving

  • Sacrificially (2 Corinthians 8:1-2) despite our needs
  • Generously (8:3-7) as much as we are able
  • Gratefully (8:8-9) for the grace of Christ who though rich became poor that we might be rich
  • Realistically (8:10-12) according to our means
  • Equally (8:13-15) giving of our plenty to help supply what others need
  • Properly (8:16-24) ensuring that our management of money is beyond reproach
  • Actually (9:1-5) to ensure our practice matches our claims
  • Freely (9:6-7) not reluctantly but cheerfully
  • Confidently (9:8-11) knowing that God will always supply our needs
  • Encouragingly (9:12-17) others will praise God for what he is doing in our lives.

What next?

Take some time out to consider your personal finances.
Pray – ask God how best you can support His work with the money He has given you.
